lelakitakpuas.com compares Syariah laws and Singapore laws

A man from one part of this world read in the newspaper that a woman who imported controlled drugs, without permit, into the Republic of Singapore was found guilty in

the High Court of the Republic of Singapore and was sentenced to death by hanging because the woman was presumed to be trafficking drugs.

(The law in Singapore provides that it is a capital offence for anyone who trafficks in controlled drugs under the Misuse of Drugs Act.)

The first reaction from the man was to criticise the legal system, the administration and the government of Singapore and asked, “Is Singapore practising the law of the jungle? And he also asked, do the people of Singapore live on trees?”.

This man also remarked that Singapore is not a loving government. And he wants the laws of Singapore changed.

But what right does this man have to criticise or to dictate to the people of Singapore to lobby or to advocate for changes in the Singapore laws? Who is he, to comment that the Singapore government is not a loving government?

If he were to do a poll and ask the people of Singapore how they rated their government of the day, naturally the responses he will get are that the people of Singapore love and adore their PAP government. And when asked for reasons the people will say that they believe in the government. They will say that the PAP government is a responsible, listening and caring government. There is no doubt about that!

The Singapore government is very concerned for the welfare of its people by giving handouts when the economy is prosperous. The PAP government provides cheap and subsidised housing so that everyone has roof over their heads. The PAP government does not want a cardborad city and does not want the people of Singapore to live in makshift tents at the beaches. Most foreigners who have been to Singapore and have observed how the Singaporeans live, would not want to leave this country. Instead these foreigners would want to be the citizens of Singapore so that once they have been granted citizenship or permanent residency, they could enjoy the benefits, privileges and perks that the government of Singapore could offer them.

Let us now turn to Islam.

Non-Muslims who do not know about Islam will say that Islam is not a good religion because Muslim women are discriminated against, dominated by, and subservient to the opposite sex. They argrued that Islam is a sexist religion. Their God, Allah is not a loving God because adulterous people will be stoned to death.

Now, let us ask any Muslim. He will say, Allah is “wasi ‘ah maghfirah.” He is ever forgiving. His love is of great abundance. He is the best and the only Provider.

Muslims have to submit to Allah and have to perform the obligatory prayers 5 times a day. Before performing the prayers, the worshippers must perform the wudhu’ (ablution). Allah says that the minor sins of a worshipper committed between one wudu’ and the other will be forgiven. And all the minor sins of a worshipper committed between one obligatory prayer and the next will also be forgiven. If you perform the obligatory prayers at the mosque, each step that the worshipper took to the the mosque will be rewarded. And a prayer performed in a ‘jema’ah’ (in a group/congregation) is rewarded 27 times more than a prayer performed solo.

As though the above incentives are not enough, Allah also says that all sins committed by a person who performs an umrah (mini Haj) and the subsequent umrah will be forgiven. And if Allah accepts the haj of a pilgrim, he is free of sins as though he is a newly born baby. And the reward is heaven.

Allah also says that every act of a believer is an ‘ibadah’ In Chapter 51, verse 56, Allah says,

” I created the jin and humankind only that they might worship Me “

Ibadah is a good deed done in this world but will be rewarded in the Hereafter. The maintenance that a husband provides for his wife/children is an ‘ibadah. Donations made to charity or charitable organisations are also acts of ibadah. Even a drop of sperm that enters the wife’s genital is an ‘ibadah’. Doesn’t Allah love His servants?

In the holy month of Ramadhan, Allah opens all the gates to heaven and close all the gates to Hell. The rewards of voluntary prayers will be elevated to that of obligatory prayers. Every obligatory prayer performed will be rewarded many folds. And in the holy month of Ramadhan there is one night which is called ‘Lailatul Qadr’. Lailatul Qadr is ‘The Night of Power’. Any believer who performs an ‘ibadah’ on the night of Qadr will receive the rewards equivalent to performing an ibadah equivalent to 1,000 months.

Allah says in Chapter 97, Verse 3,

“The night of power is better than 1, 000 months.”

The purpose of living in this world is preparing for our lives in the Hereafter. The longer a believer lives in this world the better for him because he could accumulate more rewards. That is why Allah extended the lives previous prophets’ followers (other than the followers of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him) to that of hundred years and to some others, thousands of years. But the followers of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) need not live that long because of the Night of Qadr (Power). A believer who met with one night of Qadr will receive the rewards of performing an ibadah of 83.33 years (1,000 divided by 12, which is equivalent to 83.33 years). If a follower of Prophet Muhammad lives 50 years post puberty, and every year he met with a night of Qadr, this means that the Prophet Muhammad’s follower was doing ibadah for 83.33 years multiply by 50, which is equivalent to 4,016.5 years.

Don’t you dare say that Allah is not a loving Creator. Only the irrational minds would say that.

Due to pressure on space, I am unable to list many other examples or arguments which evidently point to or show or prove that Allah is the only loving and lovable Creator in this world and the Hereafter.

So, it is justified to conclude that it is an insult to the believers if a non-believer who has not done any comprehensive studies on Islam, to say that Allah is not a loving God just because He commanded a person who commits adultery be stoned to death.

The bold letters of the law as enunciated in the Holy Quran must be obeyed. It is also an insult to the believers, if any law practitioner were to advocate changes to Syariah laws on divorce because to their minds the Syariah laws discriminate against women and must be ‘corrected’. Na’uzubillahi min zalik. To them, the men (or the husbands) must be punished because they have been bestowed by Allah the rights to utter ‘talak’

Allah has never said that it is wrong to utter talak. But Allah says that among the halal things which he dislike is Talak. No servant of Allah could rule anything which is ordained halal by Him, as haram or forbidden or the vice versa.

A word of advice to the non-believers of the Islamic faith, please keep out from criticising Islam. To those who want to advocate changes to Islamic laws, please make sure you are fully equipped with knowledge and understanding on Islam, Islamic jurisprudence and Syariah laws.
